MS NAKERA COOPER

Curriculum Coordinator

Nakera graduated from Shaw University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiotherapy. She later attained her teaching certification at the University of The Bahamas and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Exceptional Student Education at Barry University. 

 

She has been a Special Education teacher for the past 17 years. First in various schools in the public sector from 2003 to 2016 and currently in the private sector at Queen's College from 2016 to the present time. At Queen's College, Nakera served as a first-grade teacher for one year in 2016 to 2017. She then transitioned to lead the Reading Intervention Department for Foundation Years from 2017 to the present time. This year in 2020, along with her duties as the Reading Specialist for Foundation Years she also serves as the Curriculum Coordinator for the Centre for Further Education.

 

Throughout her 17 years of teaching, Nakera has received training in various areas, such as Autism, Reading Intervention, Social and Emotional Behavioural Disorders, and Curriculum Instruction. She has also had opportunities to provide professional development training to other educators and students pursuing a degree in the field of education.
