Literacy Builders (Grade 1 & 2)

This course supports literacy development by integrating the core literacy pillars; Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, Writing and Comprehension.

Students will be assessed, and engaged in hands-on learning experiences and instruction/ activities. There will also be differentiated activities to support the different levels of literacy learners.

Students will:

• Know and apply grade-level phonics and word decoding skills.

• Identify Sight & High-Frequency words in and outside of texts.

• Improve their reading; by reading Grade and Reading level appropriate texts with sufficient accuracy and fluency to aid comprehension.

• Use information from pictures and texts to answer questions.

• Use the writing process to create short stories.

• Participate in collaborative discussions and conversations.
